Wheelchair Program

Imagine being able to provide a child with physical limitations the ability to score a goal in soccer. Our pediatric wheelchair program is dedicated to doing just that.

We help children with physical disabilities participate in adaptive recreational sports that require the use of specifically designed chairs. Our program also helps relieve the financial burden an uninsured family may face in obtaining a standard or specialized wheelchair.

Adaptive wheelchairs for sports (such as tricycles) and some medical upgrades to chairs (such as the ability to stand up or go faster) are generally not covered by insurance. Our program helps families that are in need of these features. We purchase the chairs directly from the manufacturer and help facilitate delivery to the families.

For some chairs, JDJ volunteers may be present at delivery. We aim to cover at least 3 adaptive wheelchairs and 3 wheelchair upgrades per year.

Our program has donated 37 wheelchairs, supported numerous adaptive sport teams, and covered accessibility upgrades for families in need, totaling over $275,000 in support.
